Privacy Policy for VolleyCam
Last Updated: 5 January 2026.
1. Overview
VolleyCam includes both the Android application and the VolleyCam website at volleycam.com. The app records volleyball games using a “dashcam” style buffering mechanism, and the website lets users view and manage recordings. Users join a specific “room” using a 6-digit code to associate clips with a game session.
2. Information We Collect
2.1. Video and Audio Data
- What we collect: The app accesses your device’s Camera and Microphone to record video and audio of volleyball games.
- How it is used: The app continuously buffers video in memory. Only when a “trigger” event occurs (initiated by the user from a mobile phone or from the website using the room code), the relevant video segment (video and audio) is saved and uploaded to our servers (
volleycam.com). - Background Usage: The app continues to record while the screen is off to preserve battery life during long games (typically 3 hours).
2.2. Room Identification
- What we collect: A 6-digit Room ID created arbitrarily by the users for their game session.
- How it is used: To associate uploaded clips with a specific game session and to control access on the website.
2.3. Website Usage Data
- What we collect: Standard web log data such as IP address, browser type, and pages accessed. The website also uses cookies to keep you signed in, remember your language preference, and keep your current room selection.
- How it is used: To operate the website, secure access to recordings, and provide the requested pages and features.
2.4. Device Identifier
- What we collect: A technical device identifier (random UUID) stored on the device.
- How it is used: To generate unique file names and process uploads correctly on the server.
3. Data Sharing and Transfer
- Server Upload: Recorded clips are uploaded to our secure server
volleycam.com. - Encryption: All data transfer is encrypted using standard HTTPS/WSS protocols.
- Public Visibility:
- Clips associated with a Room ID are accessible to anyone who possesses that valid 6-digit Room ID.
- Important: Once a clip is “published” or uploaded, it may be publicly accessible to any user on the internet who has the correct link or Room ID via the website. Do not use this service to record private or sensitive moments.
4. Data Retention
Uploaded clips are stored indefinitely until they are deleted by the user. Users can delete clips through the website if they know the Room ID. You can also contact the site administrator to request deletion. In some cases, clips may be removed at the administrator’s discretion. Buffered recordings in device memory are not saved unless a trigger was sent.
5. User Rights and Control
- Uploading: You have control over when the app is active and recording.
- Deletion: Users with access to the Room ID can delete clips through the VolleyCam website. You can also request deletion by contacting support.
- Reporting: You can report inappropriate content through the website.
